Spectriq

Not one number. A spectrum.

Spectriq is a set of puzzles without words — patterns, 3D blocks, sequences to remember, symbols to spot against the clock. At the end you see how you did in four areas, compared with people your age, instead of a single score.

For entertainment. Spectriq is a game of puzzles, not a medical, psychological or clinical assessment. What that means

Example resultage 30–34

Better than 78% of people your age

  • Logic84th
  • Space91st
  • Memory62nd
  • Speed70th

Strongest: turning shapes in your head. Roughly IQ 108–118 — a playful estimate, not a clinical assessment.

Four areas, two puzzles each

No words, no trivia, nothing to translate — so the test works the same in any language and any country. Every puzzle is generated by the app from rules, which also means you can't learn the answers by heart.

01

Logic

Patterns
A 3×3 grid with one piece missing. Find the rule, pick the piece.
Scales
Shapes in balance. Work out what goes on the empty pan.

02

Space

3D blocks
Turn the blocks with a swipe and rebuild the pattern. Faster earns more.
Rotation
Two 3D figures: the same one turned around, or a mirror image?

03

Memory

Digit sequences
Hear the digits, type them back — forwards, backwards or in order.
Light-up squares
Squares flash one by one. Repeat the order. The sequence keeps growing.

04

Speed

Symbol search
Is the target symbol in the row? Yes or no, as many as you can.
Code
A key pairs symbols with digits. Fill in the symbols against the clock.
~10 min

Quick

Four puzzles, one from each area, and an overall result.

All eight puzzles and the complete four-area profile.

Kids, with a parent

Shorter, bigger buttons, breaks between blocks. The parent sees strengths — no IQ number.

What the result looks like

A profile first

The main screen shows the four areas side by side, which ones stand out, and a percentile — “better than 78% of people your age”. That says more than any single number, and it is easier to read honestly.

Age matters: memory and speed peak at different ages than reasoning does, so you are always compared with your own age group.

An IQ figure, in small print

If you want it, there is an IQ-style figure too — shown as a range, like 108–118, never as one exact number, because a test on a phone can't be that precise.

The app measures each answer to the millisecond and checks your phone's touch delay at the start, so a slow screen doesn't count against you.

Where the numbers come from

To say “better than 78% of people your age”, the app needs to know how people of each age usually do. We build those comparison tables — the norms — from open scientific sources.

Published studies

Peer-reviewed research

Open-access papers that report average scores by age for memory, speed and reasoning tasks like ours — sequences of digits, light-up squares, symbol coding, pattern grids, rotation.

Public datasets

Open survey data

Large public-domain datasets such as the U.S. CDC's NHANES health survey, which includes a timed symbol-coding task, recalculated by us.

Population statistics

Who lives where

Age, sex and education figures from the UN, the World Bank, Eurostat and national censuses, used to balance the sample so it looks like the real population.

We use the published figures, never the questions of other tests: every puzzle in Spectriq is our own, generated from rules. Over time, people who choose to share their results anonymously help adjust the norms to the phone format. Each result shows which version of the norms it was calculated with.

For entertainment, honestly

Spectriq is built on published science, but it is a game, not an instrument. It has not been clinically validated, and it is not a medical, psychological, educational or professional assessment of any kind.

Your result can move with sleep, mood, a noisy room or a small screen. Treat it as a fun snapshot — not as a diagnosis, and not as a reason to make decisions about yourself, your child, your studies or anyone's job. If you have real concerns about memory, attention or development, talk to a qualified specialist.
