Spectriq

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 October 2026

The short version

  • No account, no email, no name, no phone number. No ads and no analytics.
  • The test runs on your phone, and your history of results stays there.
  • Sending anonymous results to help improve the norms is optional and off by default. For a child, only a parent can switch it on.
  • Nothing is ever sold or shared for marketing.

Spectriq (“the app”) is made by NG Hive LLC, an independent studio in the United States. This policy explains what the app keeps, what it sends and when, who can see it and how to get rid of it. Questions: contact@nghive.app.

On your phone

Everything needed to take the test — the puzzles, the comparison tables, the voice recordings of digits — is built into the app, so it works without an internet connection. Your answers, your results and the history of your attempts are stored only on your device. Deleting the app deletes them.

Before the test the app may ask your age, and optionally your sex and level of education, so it can compare you with the right group. This also stays on the phone unless you choose to share results, as described below.

Sharing results anonymously (optional)

The comparison tables start from published scientific data. To adjust them to the way people actually do on phones, the app can send results to our server — only if you switch this on. You can switch it off at any time in Settings; from then on nothing more is sent.

When it is on, each completed test sends:

WhatWhy
A random installation ID created by the appTo tell attempts from the same installation apart, and to let you ask us to delete them. It is not linked to your name, your Apple ID or your Google account
Age in years; sex and education, if you gave themTo build norms for each age group and balance them against the real population
Country and app languageTo see whether results differ by region or language version
Phone model and the measured touch delayDifferent screens react at different speeds; we correct for it
Your answers and the time taken on each puzzleThis is what the norms are made of
Your answer to “Did anyone help you? Were you interrupted?” and the app's own check for unreliable answersSuch results are left out of the norms
Version of the puzzles and of the normsSo old and new results can be compared correctly

The server is Supabase, hosted in the United States. Everything travels over encrypted connections. The database accepts new results but does not let any app read other people's results. Like any internet service, the server sees your connection's IP address while it receives the data; we do not save it with the results.

What we never collect

How the shared results are used

Only to calculate and improve the norms — the tables that say how people of each age usually do — and to make the puzzles fairer. Norms are published in the app only as averages over large groups (hundreds of people per age group), so no individual can be recognised in them. We do not sell results, share them with advertisers or use them to profile anyone.

We may publish aggregate findings — for example, how reaction times change with age — but never individual results.

Children

The main part of Spectriq is meant for adults. A separate mode lets a parent test a child aged 8–15 on the parent's own phone; it is opened from behind a parental check. In that mode the result is shown to the parent and no IQ figure is given.

Sending a child's results is off by default and can be switched on only by the parent, in that mode. If switched on, the same fields as above are sent — never a child's name or anything that identifies them. There is no advertising, profiling or marketing directed at anyone, children included. If you believe a child's data reached us in a way you did not intend, write to contact@nghive.app and we will delete it.

Deleting your data

Norms that have already been calculated are averages and contain no individual results, so they are not recalculated when one result is removed.

Who else is involved

That is the entire list. There are no advertising or analytics companies in it.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it: contact@nghive.app. Because results are anonymous, please include the installation ID from Settings so we can find them.

Changes

Spectriq is still being built, and this policy will be updated before release and as the app changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a future version adds anything new — for example advertising — this policy will say so first, and the app will ask for any consent the law requires.
